The Sustainable Pork Value Chain (KDV) believes in sustainable meat: healthy animals, energy-neutral pig farming, a better life for the pigs, and meat with the best taste. That's why we continue to reinvent ourselves. Year after year.

We want to highlight our vision with this sixth online annual report. Scroll along with us and discover what's important to us, what we have achieved and how we are working towards a better world.

Smart Farming

These 91 'smart farmers' gained access to new insights about their animals that had not previously been available to them.

Smart Farming

Identification of individual animals opens new doors to various types of research, small-scale all the way up to comprehensive, within the value chain or at the level of a single farm.

Smart Farming

One example of such research is our search for the best-tasting pork. We are testing three pig breeds for that purpose:

Smart Farming

1,290 piglets in the genetics test

1,347 piglets in the genetics test

1,761 piglets in the genetics test

Smart Farming

The RFID chips offer transparency and trust: Working closely with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, we are launching a pilot project on 20 farms involving pigs without slaughter tags.

Sty of the future

In 2018, we continued working on the Sty of the Future. A healthier sty climate is becoming increasingly feasible.

Ammonia reduction 85%

Better health for animals and farmers

Energy neutral

Ready for the future

Thanks in no small part to these initiatives, new market opportunities are opening up. In 2018, for example, we exported Antibiotic-free Life Guarantee pork to Italy, and we are seeing a growing demand for Patron meat amongst butchers.

Ready for the future

Working closely with our partners in Italy, we are taking the Italian market by storm. That sounds like this:

“Kappa di vu”

Ready for the future

And looks like this:

Ready for the future

In the Netherlands, the best of the best is available for retail: Patron. More and more butchers are finding their way to us for these premium meats!
